|Recently back from a fantabulous n frisky fortnight of scramblin up scree and yellin yippees atop the mountains that abound down that BC-Berta Border! Oh Precipitous climbs with my Japanese cousin Keita, his first time in the BIG mountains and loving every bonafide minute of our bodacious backyard. and what a companion to have, day in and day out, a tireless friend to put up with my this-ways and thats… to use dirt to clean dishes, moss to wipe our arses, dumpsters to find our food!
|First to Devil’s Thumb, then up the Valley of the Ten Peaks to savour the sweet serenade of Sentinel pass, leaving us spellbound by the scramble-top view from Eiffel’s summit. Then yonder into Paradise Valley to walk beneath maw and paw of Mt.Temple, a fortress of towering rock black and cinnamon, clawing at craven cumulus from its tempest-battered throne for over 60 million years. Two nights then, around Crowfoot glacier to gaze wide-eyed atop Bow Peak at the panoply of peaks past Hector Lake, to Mt. Andromache, Hungabee, Vulture, Temple, Jimmy Simpson. Then further north to the Icefields, to the endless alpine fantasy of Wilcox pass, tenting our final night on the rubbly wonder summit of Wilcox peak, near 3000m high, a perch to reach for the gods, making monkey calls at the moonlit monoliths of the Athabasca massif…
